DoD and Healthcare

The Department of Defense (DoD) has established the policies that support military families of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps and their reserve components. The DoD has also established the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) for service members who have children with special needs, including autism. Members of the Coast Guard who are part of the Department of Homeland Defense are covered under a special program called The Work-Life Program.

The DoD has developed some very useful Web sites and tools to assist military families in a variety of ways. MilitaryHOMEFRONT is the Web site for official Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP) program information, policy and guidance designed to help troops and their families, leaders, and service providers. Among its many resources is the DoD Special Needs Parent Tool Kit , which has comprehensive information and tools geared towards helping military families with special needs children navigate the maze of medical and special education services, community support and benefits and entitlements. Please see the Military links section for a list and descriptions of some of these resources.
